Don’t Forget Your Peeps! Staffing Your Estate Sale
How Many Staff Do You Need for an Estate Sale?
Number of staff is pretty critical to how smoothly your estate sale runs.
At minimum, you’ll want a greeter at the front door, a cashier to handle payments and transactions, and a few people roaming the house to assist shoppers with pricing and answer questions about items.
Beyond basic coverage, there are a few staffing decisions worth thinking through ahead of time. Do you want someone stationed at the front door for the entire sale, or just during peak hours? And just as important — do you have someone on site who can help buyers get larger items out to their car?
This matters more than people expect. What’s your plan if someone buys a sofa or a kitchen table? Do you have the tools needed to disassemble a piece of furniture if it won’t fit through the front door? And who’s going to help carry it out once it’s ready to go?
Staffing an estate sale isn’t just about filling roles — it’s about making sure every part of the buying experience, from browsing to checkout to getting items home, runs smoothly.
